Umno cannot take lightly the influence of Bersatu led by former Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad together with former Deputy Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yasin.
Kelantan BN Secretary, Datuk Md Alwi Che Ahmad said, the influence of Tun Dr Mahathir or affectionately known as Tun M cannot be denied especially within younger generations who grew up during the former prime minister’s era.
He said , BN should be cautious and cannot take lightly the matter in dealing with Bersatu which is seen actively approaching the young people and rural areas.
“Young people born during Tun M’s era can see how the leader governed and took over the people’s heart, we cannot denied that. He is somebody with influence and has his own supporters.
“We cannot take the matter lightly, we must work hard to unite the people. Bersatu like Pas, is from Umno’s DNA. However, I am a bit disappointed when Malays are divided, we are stronger when we are united,” he said during a media conference after giving away zakat revenue and rice field yield of Ladang Merdeka Kolam near Pak Badol, yesterday.
Further commenting, Md Alwi who is also Kemubu Agricultural Development Authority (Kada) Chairman said, the farm’s revenue is promising, there are farmers who acquired RM7,000 a season from six hectares of land.
He said, merdeka farms managed by Kada is different from other paddy projects which is privatized because merdeka farms are generating income with 6.7 metric tonnes/hectare namely RM3,340/ hectare.
“Ladang Merdeka Kolam is one of the farms generating the most income in Kelantan with an area of 43.18 hectares, involving 146 farmers.
“We do want to extend the merdeka farms but the government has no budget yet,” he said.
